Towards the virtual brain

3D reconstruction of a neural network

This model from the Blue Brain Project not only reproduces the anatomy of the brain, but also simulates its behavior.
By electrically replicating the activity of living neuronal networks, it becomes a virtual laboratory, a unique field of exploration between biology, physics and computer science.

This model has already made it possible to predict properties of the brain never before observed experimentally. It offers a new way of testing hypotheses and exploring the circuits of memory, perception and consciousness.

Ultimately, the ambition is immense: to reconstruct an entire brain, first in rats, then in humans, to better understand the foundations of cognitive functions and neurological diseases.

What this image shows us is a dynamic map of the living world, a brain that can be programmed, tested and explored neuron by neuron.
A vision in which complexity is no longer a barrier, but a fact to be deciphered.
